The Barn provides specialist care and supervision for 11 adults with various levels of need, from those with high-functioning Asperger's Syndrome to those with more demanding forms of autistic spectrum disorders.

The home has a bright and spacious kitchen and dining area, where residents eat meals together. Higher-functioning users share meal preparation and cleaning responsibilities. There is a downstairs lounge with a fireplace and comfortable sofas. An upstairs lounge has soft furniture, a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams and a view of Heath Farm's communal gardens.

The Barn has a dedicated activities coordinator and has developed strong links with local colleges, where residents are encouraged to pursue educational courses. Its specialist team works with individuals to maximise their independence with the aim of integration into the community. Where appropriate, residents are also encouraged to secure suitable voluntary and paid employment opportunities.
