Part of the Maria Mallaband Care Group

A young man with ASD up to eighteen months ago lived in his own flat, had a job at a local supermarket and was in a relationship. When his relationship with his girlfriend broke down he lost his job, fell into despair and would not talk to anyone.
John was placed in an Autism Care UK residential service. He talked at length about his future plans, however when asked what he wanted he became very anxious, abusive and uncooperative. He was asked if he would like a person centered plan, we started developing a circle of support.
Developing a circle of support/friends for John had benefits on many levels. It provided him with the opportunity to have good role models, facilitate conversations, developed his narrow interests, developed skills for social conversation and empathy.
Johns circles of support got people together in a small discussion group and by using pictures/graphic facilitation we were able to bring his dreams to life making the whole process more concrete. The visual planning developed his lack of functioning.
John now lives in his own flat and is employed as a kitchen assistant at a local care home for the elderly. He still recives an Autism Care UK Outreach service for 16 hours a week to help maintain his skills.
George and Deborah RamsdenOur son was one of the first occupants of the Cottage Unit. We were fortunate that our son settled from day one and has never expressed a desire to leave or return home.
ParentAfter looking after our son for 43 years we were reluctant to pass his care onto Heath Farm, however we have found he is happy and can express himself in a safe environment
Chris & Emma WilliamsonThe staff are always welcoming and continue to demonstrate an enthusiastic, professional, personal commitment to our son's welfare
